Grigsby-McDonald papers, 1862-1901.

The collection contains letters, a journal, and hand-copied accounts. Letters include Grigsby's Civil War letters while serving with the 49th Indiana Regiment and letters from Grigsby to his daughter in Terre Haute, 1898-1900. Topics include the family farm; the Siege of Vicksburg; an African-American regiment; and female camp followers. Materials associated with W.B. McDonald include accounts of the 53rd Indiana Regiment during the Civil War, and pages copied from an 1884 history of Orange County, Ind. Also included are 3 items relating to Dr. Claude McDonald and his wife Effie.

A resident of Orange County, Ind., Grigsby worked as a tailor and farmed. He served with the 49th Indiana Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War. Grigsby's daughter Susan married Wilford B.
